Illustration Friday: FAT


Watercolor on paper.

Fat Tree: BAOBAB

Baobab tree means " thousand year old tree ". Its growth is, virtually unlimited. Its height does not exceed 10 metres, but its trunk can reach up to 23 metres of circumference. Its roots are tiny and its wood is tender.
The baobab tree is found in areas of South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique and other tropical African countries where suitable habitat occurs.

Great idea...I love this! I have actually been mulling over the possibility of illustrating some kind of "fat plant" (which is what cactus & succulent fans call those with swollen stems or trunks.) Such plants, also called caudiform, are some of my favorites, and I have a few in my collection. (No baobabs, though!)
Fat is beautiful when you're a plant!

I love your illos and I'm going to be a nerd now because I love baobabs too! There are more species in Madagascar than there are in Africa (only one in Africa I think) Lots of really unique things there to inspire you!

Great take on the theme and gorgeous illo! Boabs are also found in northern australia and I was lucky enough to see some a few years ago. I always thought it looked like they had bad circulation ;-)
