Today I Saw

The lovely Jill over at Today I Saw invited me to play and asked me a few fun questions.
I'm doing a flash giveaway at my blog today!
After reading the questions over at Jill's blog please come back here and leave a comment with the name of one of the birds I mention in the interview.
The winner will receive my Today I Saw postcard in the mail!
I will choose a random name tomorrow morning
and will announce the winner at noon! Have fun!
*I stopped biting my nails last year! I started biting them when I was two years old so it was a pretty tough habit to break. So, yes! that is my very own nail in the photo ;)

A few teensy weensy books are available at my shop.

And there's a new print at my Etsy shop!
***Comments are now closed. I will announce the winner of the giveaway later today.
Thank you for playing with me :)

I have to give the great-tailed grackles a heads up
Hi Geninne! I love your blog . . . an amazing source of inspiration. Ooh, vermillion flycatchers for me.
Geninne, is it too naughty for me to leave a comment? If so that's ok, if not I say 'Hawk!'. Your postcard is so lovely. I love the colours.
A joy to see your work and vermillion flycatcher sounds very exotic.
...and congratulations on the nails!
Enjoy your day

Hello,
Olá,
I love your work, your blog, your inspiration... I would like to see vermillion flycatchers!!!

Raven! And congrats on the nail biting, I'm currently working on that...
I have a love/hate relationship with the "hawks"...they are beautiful (I would love to see one in Mexico) but the attack and kill my chickens!!

hi, Vermillion flycatchers....
may I add that your work is so beautiful and colourful...

i say raven! this postcard is so lovely! and congratulations on stopping nail biting... i´m working on that for years now...now i´m using nail polish to stop me.
What a lovely little interview. I'd love to have such a lovely view out the window. I have a view over a lot of rooftops, although I have seen the odd grey heron (the little brother of the "White Heron") flying over to the local river for the odd bit of fishing!
The two ravens! Woof and tail wags,
~moose
PS...dad trims my nails so they are nice when I work at school!
such a nice project ! i love flycatchers too !!
Geninne, your postcard is just lovely! Congrats on your nails -- and white heron it is.
It's quite a dilemma! If I say heron it is because of the elegance,if I say vermillon flycatcher it is because of the colour! But I will say raven because of the spirit! And I love Edgar Alan Poe!
Great postcard! I love this specific department in the art supplies shop but also the smell of the papers!Don't you?Ariadne from Greece!
A hawk...because they are my favorite:)
Swoon!
Vermillion flycatchers!! Love your blog and your artwork very much!! Kudos to you for your nail! Been there, done that!
Great-tailed grackles --- they are even fun to say!
Hi!
For the giveaway: white heron.
BTW: I like this accordion-book. :)
Lep pozdrav / Greetings,

White herons are a nice balance for your always beautiful watercolor palettes! -Robyn in Minnesota
I will have to say, white herons. I love to photograph them, too!
love your work...vermillion flycatcher for me. We don't have those at my house. Saw one once at the Botanic garden in San Miguel de Allende.
White herons was the first bird I read about in the interview but some of the others are very intreguing.
Love your nails!
I'll name two birds: the great-tail grackle and the vermillion flycatcher. Because those birds have the same effect as a holiday snapshot that makes you dream about far countries. They make me curious... because all I see here (through the window: I'm staying inside for a few weeks because I have to study) are blue tits, great tits, common blackbirds and house sparrows and dunnocks. Not that they aren't interesting but it's always great fun watching a new species of birds!
Ravens. I would love the chance to win any of your work. Thank you.
Oh! I have not seen a vermilion flycatcher in person yet...that would be wonderful to see! Thanks for entering me in the drawing!
A Hawk and Two Ravens! I love your work... :)
so cool! I just got up today so all I saw is a dog playing with a doll and pretzel crumbs in a bowl.
Ooh I love White herons. I even drew a detailed one for a scientific illustration project years ago for an art class.
Love your art and would love to win the postcard. Thanks!
I also would love to see what a vermillion flycatcher looks like.
Saw a Hawk and two ravens fighting for territory? That's something you don't see every day! I would love to win a postcard.
I am always inspired by the beautiful colours you use in your bird paintings. Vermillion Flycatchers must be astounding to see on a walk out in nature. I am going to go look them up in my Peterson Bird Guide right now :)
heron, my lovely...
such an inventive giveaway...
:)))
white herons!
ravens!
I like your "Today I saw"
I'm imagining that fight between the hawk and the ravens. What a interesting thing to see.
Love your blog and your art!
white herons! I'd never heard of "today I saw" before today, but absolutely love the idea behind it!
I don't think we have white herons, but we do see Great Blue Herons when we ride on the bike trail. Love your blog and your art work.
Beautiful!
a hawk!
Sybille from South Tyrol
White herons, because sometimes I see them too. Gorgeous artwork!
i am a raven`s daughter and i love your work over all!
Hi Geninne :)
The postcard is adorable. I always have trouble kepping myself under control when at an art supply store!
vermillion flycatchers
thanks :)
Hawk
Your colorful postcard makes me want to run down to the art store here to peruse the papers there! (And your nails look great too!)
Being an avid, traveling bird watcher, I'll pick the Vermillion Flycatcher because it's the most stunning bird to see in real life, the color is so brilliant it appears to be a glowing ember perched on a branch, phone line or fence.
Love the postcard, hope I win it.
White Heron (I love the blue Heron's here). I just read your interview and I've bookmarked a new blog to read.
Thanks!
White heron for me. I love the colors that you use. So many shades and subtleties to them, and all so vibrant.
I'd love to see a vermillion flycatcher. And I LOVE your sweet watercolor. So simple, yet eye-catching. I feel like I'm in the shop.
Vermillion Flycatchers look great :)
Just loooove birds too*
thanks****
just had to look up what a great tailed grackle might look like. Sounded like something from Dr. Seuss
Would love to own your today I saw postcard. Just love your vibrant colors.
I love the sound or 'great tailed grackles' but don't have a clue as to what they may look like. Off to google it!
you mentioned Vermillion Flycatchers. Flycatchers are one of my favorite birds I have yet to check off my lifelist.
i love your paintings!!
and i have a question:
can i also buy these paintings although i live in germany?
thank you for an answer.
Fun interview. You saw a hawk.
Hawk :)
love your style
I guess it would be gorgeous to get a glimpse of some great-tailed grackles....love your work Gennine..so inspiring, as always....thank you!
I'd love to see a vermillion fly-catcher! and I'm off to google a great-tailed grackle!!!
I'll say the fighting ravens! They sound like such a sight! Your picture is beautiful!
Good for you, Geninne on growing beautiful nails! I googled vermillion flycatchers because it sounded like it must be beautiful and they sure are.
vermillion flycatchers sound like such magical creatures. you're lucky to spot them!
Ravens! Always makes me think of Edgar Allen Poe... :o)
Congrats on quitting your nail-biting! Your nails look beautiful. :o)
Thanks for the giveaway - I enjoyed the interview, and also the introduction to Jill's blog.
Hello, Gennine! I like Jill's project and I enjoyed your interview very much! It was nice to know something more about you... For example about your love for Mexico's charms! What about birds... The hawk grabbed my attention! It must have been quite an exciting sight!
The White Heron...may bring me luck today...even though I have never seen one...lots of Blue ones though.
Thanks for the GIVEAWAY...and I loved the interview!
HUGS

The "Red Baron" hawk -- what a fun (and apt) analogy!
As always, your work is so inspiring.
GRACKLES! Are they black, blue, violet?
I'm being introduced to them for the first time today and am in love!
Thanks, G.

The hawk and raven battle made me smile at the end of your interview so that would be my answer.
and I would like to know the answer of Paula's question, because i live in the Netherlands
Espero un día tener tanta suerte como tú y encontrarme con algunos churrinches cara a cara.
(lo confieso... tuve que buscar en google el nombre español del "vermillion flycatcher" :-)
Thanks for the chance to win your beautiful postcard y un abrazo desde Barcelona!

Oh, I love herons and that you mentioned white herons.
White heron! I love herons, but the vermillion flycatchers sounds so beautiful! I love your artwork. Thank you for always being a bright spot in my day. Cheers.
It's beautiful as is all your work. The red baron Hawk is my answer :)
White herons! We have the blue herons here and I like to watch them too.
I love the color of your mortar and pestle....
Hawk! I love hawks.
Cool card.
Cheryl
Hi Geninne,
You saw white herons and vermillian flycatchers. Love your blog. It makes me smile every day. My husband, David, and I drove to Denali (Mt McKinley)yesterday and watched the mountain turn to fire in the sunrise. Happy Days to you and your family.
I'll have to go with white heron. I work on an estate and see so many birds everyday. Your blog always makes me wish I had more time to spend outside watching them!
~Erin
I would love to see a vermillion flycatcher in person someday! Love your blog!
Tara
The Flycatcher is a beautiful bird but although ravens are "just" black, I think they're beautiful birds too. And also a hawk must be amazing to see. Living in the city of Amsterdam, I don't see that kind of birds. It's funny, I always look at Jills blog too and now the two of you work together!
Greetings, Anita
there have been a couple of hawks hanging out in my backyard recently too. they are so fascinating to watch.
I would love to see a vermilion flycatcher!!! Of course, I enjoy the birds on your blog and in your art....
Carol c.
I love the simplicity of the raven. So classic in his choice of shiny black feathers.
Hi, beautiful postcard, i would love to see vermillion flycatchers.
I had to look this one up, had to smile at his name: great-tailed grackle!
xoxox
I love vermillion flycatchers. I used to see them during spring migration and summer in Texas. I don't live there anymore and it's one of the birds I miss the most.
As always, I love and admire your work.
Was it a bird?
Was it a plane?
No, it was the Red Baron Hawk!
x Felicity
Hi Geninne, I read your interview with Jill and the white herons are the birds that I would love to see... One day I found a most beautiful gray heron down feather being blown about by the breeze... the gray herons are beautiful, but I would love to see a white heron!
The hawk and ravens...I could see them doing their acrobatics!
Hands down, the vermillion flycatcher!
I loved this interview over at Jill's blog, it's so much fun to see interaction everywhere on my friends' blogs :) it makes me so happy
your drawing is amazing, the winner will be so lucky.
just wanted to leave a hug xoxo
I'd love to see that 'Red Baron' hawk being chased. That must have been quite a sight. As always your work is so colorful and cheerful. It always put a smile on my face. :-)
I hoped that you mention peacock but well, hawk and ravens aren't bad too :)
Great-tailed grackle...almost sounds like a tongue twister, don't you think?
No google account...yet but you can find me a prplfuz@yahoo.com
some people tell me i have the eyes of a hawk. If I promise not to bite my nails for the next five weeks will you give them a geninne makeover:)
Vermillion Flycatchers sound intriguing. Off to Google them right now!
White heron because I love the way they look when they fly around here! I am a recent follower and I feel very inspired by your work and the bright colors of your blog in general!
Lovely link to Jill's blog!!!
And the vermillion flycatchers...would love to meet them one day!
Hugs from over the ocean,
kathy

A hawk, of course...because they are my favorite:)
Geninne
Your blog is always so inspiring! I had to look up the vermillion flycatcher's.. they are little beauties!
Vicky
I have to say "great-tailed grackles" because I didn't even know that specie! I love Jill's blog and I think it's great you worked together. Your postcard is amazing :)
I would really like to me to have great-tailed grackles and especially to get my hands on this post so pretty ;-)
Geninne! Congrats on your beautiful nails! :D I know it's hard to stop the nail biting habit, I'm also glad a close friend of mine finally did it too, after so many years fighting to stop.
Ravens are interesting birds, aren't they? ;)
Love,
Fabiana
I liked the sound of the white Heron. We have ones around Vancouver that are called 'Blue Herons' so it would be quite cool to see them as white!
Your blog is lovely!
i say hawks!
i love your books, they´re magic...

feliz año!
hawk! :)
After I read your interview, I had to look up what a vermillion flycatcher looked like... it's a beautiful bird!
i am so happy your shop is back from vacation. now how to pick?? vermillion flycatchers - what a beautiful and dangerous color (mercury sulfide, yikes!).
Heron!!!! Yay...Good luck everyone!!!
The Hawk... I would want the hawk to win!!!
Ravens, ravens ravens!! Best of luck to us all!
I saw a yellow tailed hawk today, what kind live in your world?
What fun.....my favorite; vermillion flycatcher.
I love the name of the great-tailed grackles. Off now to google that!=)
I love birds...you are lucky to see white herons, they are so distinguished when they walk and when they open their gracious wings...Personnaly I am taming a blue jay...I name him Pierrot.
I love your tiny books they are so inspiring...Pierrot and I wish you a great day !
i saw vermillion flycatchers!
im a failure when it comes to spontaneous sketching. I always admire how you can draw and paint so well. Something that I wish to learn :)
Love the postcard!! What a fun way to document "What I saw" that day.
Hawk caught my eye, since only last week we had a Cooper's Hawk in our yard, feasting on a chicken that got killed the night before by a possum. It was late when I found the dead chicken and I was going to dispose of it in the morning, but when I looked out my bedroom window, there was the Hawk, having breakfast! The kids and I spent the next hour watching a real live nature show right outside our window!
Happy Monday!
Raven!
I bet the Hawk won the fight! Good luck everyone :)
had to look up the great tailed grackle - what beautiful feathers. are they irredescent?
The Raven(s) & the Hawk...also the name of the band my husband & I "perform" as on very rare occasion.
A great tailed grackle - I'd never heard of them so I just looked them up :)
oooh - vermilion flycatchers, because I love the word vermilion! (And I will soon be the VERY happy and proud owner of one of your little books - SO excited to add to my "Geninne collection"". :)
SusanG/susangail.g@gmail.com
white herons :)
Ravens...
Thank you Gennine.
I love all your birds but I will say raven. Just love everything you do.
That white heron must have been beautiful.
Lovely interview. And even though he was painted as the villain, I'll mention the hawk. (My family's crest is two crossed hawk feathers, so hawks have always been symbols of luck, strength and family for me.)
I guess I should have left my email addy: lshin116 (at) hotmail (dot) com.
I'm joining the vermillion flycatcher throng because we don't have those in my part of the world but I've seen all the others you named. The name itself is somewhat poetic, isn't it! I love your beautiful and inspiring work!
The white heron!!! They always make me so happy when I see them. So graceful. We have many of them by the river. But, I must admit, they aren't as cute and adorable as the rest of the little birdies you create! I'd love to see the river full of your birdies perched in the oaks, and some flying in the air! XOXO - Heidi
vermillion flycatchers
Even if I don't win - I sure do love your blog!
Amy K
great-tailed grackles. lovely, lovely, as usual, geninne. i think i favorite almost every photo of your on flickr!

hawk and 2 ravens! Oh, how I wish I could blink and be at your beautiful home -- thank you for sharing the photos, and your artwork - beyond beautiful.
Vermillion flycatchers!
I have a couple of chickadees out my window right now!
I have been a follower of your blog for quite some time and am always inspired by your work.
Every time I visit your site I feel joy! I pick the vermillion flycatcher! Oh boy, oh boy, I hope I win! Hugs, Margie
I love this idea ~ "Today I Saw..."! Vermillion flycatchers! Wish I saw those every day.

vermillion flycatchers it is!!! please pick me!!
White herons and vermillion flycatchers seem like two birds who would be life long friends.
the hawk and 2 ravens
Great-tailed grackles! :>
That's a really cute blog, thanks for the link.
Hey, your nail looks great! Coincidentally, I am wearing polish right now in yet another attempt to stop biting. On my desk is my inspiration, a bottle of dark blackish green polish. If you can do it, I can do it.
:)

Vermillion Flycatcher of course, which always reminds me of Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, although I don't know why!
I love your card! And Jill's blog is gorgeous. So glad I found it! We live on a top of a big hill and love to watch hawks circling in front of our windows. The battle you saw between the hawk and ravens sounds amazing! Lucy x
Hawk and two ravens !
Love your blog and that postcard !! Please choose meee !
A hawk and two ravens were mentioned in your interview! Gennine, my children got one of your prints for me for Christmas. It is so lovely. Thank you so much!
Geninne,
Can't wait to see what you do with the blue paper! I just got back home from the coast of California where I saw lots of Hawks and Ravens.
I spy with my little eye..a "hawk" in my mind's eye. Wish I can actually be at your beautiful house to see the amazing birds and landscape that inspires you!
herons, and vermilion flycatchers...just two of the birds you mentioned....i can never just buy one piece of paper....please tell me you bought more than one...:)..love your postcard..
G'day from down under, and cheers to appreciating a) the context of the country around you and b) art paper... le sigh! Gorgeous postcard, and a nice intro to the Today I Saw project for me. White herons is the bird I choose, because I spent my childhood in the US where my girl scout troop often spied blue herons on our bayside hikes.
I looked up vermillion flycatchers, because I'd never experienced their brilliance before. Ravens, though, their voices remind me of being in the mountains, my favorite place.
I could tell all the names of the birds you mentioned but I chose the vermillion flycatchers.
A vermillion flycatcher, of course! We don't find such exotic bids like that where we live.
I say 'Hawk!'.
i love you work and birds ;)
and two ravens !
Please pick meee :))))
Hi Geninne,
A month or two ago you mentioned - in your blog - the Avian Birds Pocket Planner that you worked on with Galison, and that they would soon be available.
I see that they are marked as "sold out" in the shop. When are more available? I was hanging out for an announcement that they were for sale, as I'd love to purchase some as gifts.
Thanks, Megan.
