Altered Photos

Photo Bundle
Altered Photos
Last year when I visited my sweet friend Margie in Toronto she took Sonia & me treasure hunting at the St. Lawrence Flea Market and I bought this little bundle of photos of Ottawa. I love the aqua color of the packaging and had to add it to my vintage ephemera collection. I finally had the chance to do something with them! I'll be altering one photo every day for the next nine days. I'm painting directly on the 3.5 x 2.5 black & white photos with FW Acrylic inks and my usual size 0 liner brush.

***I'm so excited to be going back to visit Margie in a few weeks!
I will be doing a one day stamp carving workshop at our friend Arounna's shop Boohkou.
There are still a couple of spaces available in case you want to join us.
I'd love to meet you if you're in the neighborhood!

I LOVE the way you altered this photo, and the aqua box was obviously waiting for you. ♥

I lived in Ottawa (from when I was one until I was seven). Those photos look vintage, kind of like me. :) Love the bird. Come to Montreal some day!

Hola Geninne!

Your book just arrived from Amazon. It is so beautiful! From start to finish - every little detail is perfect. Going to put the kettle on now for a cup of tea and enjoy reading through it at a more leisurely pace - rather than just devouring it with my eyes!
Well done you!

Your art takes me to a better place :) Can you make some coloring pages based on your images? Your birds, butterflies, and flowers are enchanting and I would love to spend an afternoon coloring them in... pretty please?

Love what you did to the pictures, but I just have to ask... Did you by any chanse scan those photos first?? I have been looking for vintage pictures of Ottawa, I live here and just would like to see what it looked like before (this city has changed a lot and not all for the better : (

Lovely paintings though, as always!!!

Gennine, I have been peeking at your blog for a long time. It just makes me so happy every time i do. I LOVE nature but birds especially. My Nanna Violet's nickname was Sparrow! She flitted here there and everywhere and gave a lot of love to her family.
I live in Australia. Have you ever seen Australian birds like the kookaburra, emu and our carolling magpie ? I'd love to know if you have ever painted them? I would be happy to send you a book or two if you would like.

My 3 year old grandaughter loves birds and always tells me she wants to fly and fly and fly - I think she may have some of my Nanna Violet's spirit :))
