New Surface
As you've probably noticed I love trying out new things.
This morning I used an aquabord panel instead of my usual watercolor paper
to paint a bird on a cactus. I'm still unsure if I like it as much as I do paper, but I do like that it doesn't need to be framed to be displayed. I bought a whole bunch of panels during our recent visit to the Dick Blick art store in San Diego.

Thanks for sharing. I would like to try out that panel as well. I guess it doesn't bend like paper do when it gets wet. Great to be able to use it different materials at different time. Take care!
Ah Geninne, you're right about the simplicity and advantages of aqua board ... but : I much more like the ruffled edges of watercolour paper ...I think ;-)
I love it! I like to try out new things as well, love the colours, they are gorgeous!
I work with pastels, and their pastelbord is AWESOME! Of course pastels must be framed, but it does make it easier to frame them without a mat, if you have a few tricks up your sleeve. ;)
i love the look of this, i like that it can display the work without framing. the glare on glass-framed watercolours always bothers me. i like its square format too!
the only thing that's worrisome is the corners - i'm prone to knock or crease corners, be it board or book :)

I always wanted to try those aquaboards but I've been skeptical... it looks like you can achieve same qualities as on paper
Beautiful Geninne! And I love Aquabord. I normally paint on Arches cold press but have found that Aquabord is great for portraiture. I like that you can fix mistakes that would not be fixable on paper. As I am sure you have discovered it is very different than painting on paper but has its wonderful qualities too.
Geninne, your birds are amazing. I've never tried aquaboard and maybe I'll give it a shot. Thanks so much for all your inspiration.

Genine, If you would like, get some scratchboard nibs, and then you can scratch in to the clay surface when you are done painting, it could take the place of the RW white ink! I am a scratchboard artist, and love clapboard, aqua board and scratchboards! Fun!
